CSSC announced the public phase of the $2 million ‘Caring for Those Who Cared for Us’ Capital Campaign on Thursday, February 9 at the Beltrone Living Center in Colonie, NY. Support through the campaign helps fund the development of the King Thiel Senior Community, a 96-unit affordable senior apartment community in Latham, NY.
In the public phase, CSSC will look to community friends to help support the project, many of whom were invited to attend the “Evening with Angelo” campaign kick-off event, which featured a Valentine’s Day themed cooking demonstration by Angelo Mazzone.
“I am delighted to announce that we have raised over $1.5 million toward our $2 million goal,” said Dr. John D. Bennett, President and CEO, CDPHP and ‘Caring for Those Who Cared for Us’ Capital Campaign Committee Chair. “We are now ready to launch the public phase to raise the remaining $500,000.”
Planning for this project started in 2006 as CSSC began to set aside funds for the preliminary development costs, but it wasn’t until December 2015 when the silent phase of the campaign was launched. The generosity of businesses and individual support from J. Eric King and Kathlene Thiel, BBL Charitable Foundation, Berkshire Bank Foundation, CAP COM Federal Credit Union, CDPHP, the Times Union and George R. Hearst III, SEFCU and many more enabled CSSC to reach the benchmark of $1.5 million.
“As of the end of November 2016, all 96 apartments are leased and there is already a wait list of over 75 families. From this tremendous response to this project, you can see how great the need is for affordable senior housing in our community,” said Ed Neary, Executive Director, Colonie Senior Service Centers, “and specifically how the King Thiel Senior Community provides relief for this need and resources to seniors in the Latham area who will now have access to all of our programs and services.”
CSSC is an independent, community based not-for-profit organization serving the largest population of seniors in the Capital Region.
